How this calculator works

The international foot is exactly 0.3048 m, or 304.8 mm. Dividing a millimetre dimension by that value gives decimal feet. The feet-and-inches display expresses the same length in mixed units, which is useful when translating a metric drawing for a tape marked in feet.

Formula

feet = mm / 304.8; mm = feet x 304.8.

Worked example

A 1828.8 mm panel is exactly 6 ft. A 2.5 ft panel is exactly 762 mm.

Frequently asked questions

Is a foot exactly 304.8 mm?

Yes. It follows from the international foot definition of 0.3048 m.

Can I see feet and inches?

Yes. A separate readout splits the same result into whole feet and remaining inches.

Is this a board-foot calculation?

No. Feet measure length, while board feet measure lumber volume.
