How this calculator works
The international foot is exactly 0.3048 m, so one kilometre of 1,000 m is 1,000 / 0.3048 = 3,280.84 feet. Feet remain the working unit for aircraft altitudes and for many building dimensions in North America, while kilometres appear on road signs and maps. The ratio is fixed, so a value in kilometres always becomes a much larger number of feet. The metre row lets you check an intermediate step.
Formula
ft = km x 1000 / 0.3048. km = ft x 0.3048 / 1000. Equivalently, 1 km = 3,280.839895 ft and 1 ft = 0.0003048 km.
Worked example
1 km = 3,280.84 ft. 0.5 km = 1,640.42 ft. 2 km = 6,561.68 ft. 10 km = 32,808.4 ft. 100 km = 328,084 ft. 1 ft = 0.3048 m.

Frequently asked questions
How many feet are in a kilometre?
About 3,280.84 feet. The exact value is 1,000 / 0.3048, a repeating decimal because the foot is defined as a decimal fraction of a metre.
Why do pilots use feet when maps use kilometres?
Aviation adopted feet for altitude worldwide as a common standard, and flight levels are still given in hundreds of feet. Surface distances and maps often use kilometres, so a pilot may work in both.
What is 10,000 feet in kilometres?
10,000 ft is 3,048 m, which is 3.048 km. A common cruising altitude of 35,000 ft is 10,668 m, or 10.668 km.
Is a kilometre longer than 3,000 feet?
Yes. One kilometre is about 3,280.84 feet, so even 3,000 feet is only about 0.9144 km.
