How this calculator works
The inch has been defined as exactly 25.4 mm since the 1959 international yard and pound agreement, so multiplying inches by 0.0254 uses an exact factor. Input measurements can still have uncertainty, and the readout is rounded for display.
Formula
metres = inches × 0.0254.
Worked example
72 in to metres: 72 × 0.0254 = 1.8288 m.

Frequently asked questions
Is 0.0254 the same factor used in every country?
Yes. The inch, foot, yard and mile have shared one metric definition by international agreement since 1959.
Why does the result sometimes look too short?
It is easy to type a foot count into an inch field. Check the unit selectors, since this page converts the single value you enter.
How do I convert metres back to inches?
Divide the metre value by 0.0254. The factor is exact, so the reverse conversion uses the same definition.
