How this calculator works
Find the gross area of a rectangle, triangle or combined wall and gable. Subtract doors and windows and add the entered waste factor. The quote basis converts the material rate into dollars per square metre. The result is coverage area, not a pack count or cut layout. Trim, flashing, fasteners, labour and scaffolding need separate estimates.
Formula
rectangle = width x height; triangular gable = width x rise/2; coverage = (gross area - openings) x (1 + waste); cost = coverage x area price.
Worked example
A 6 m wide triangular gable with 4 m rise has 12 m2 gross area. With no openings, 10% waste gives 13.2 m2. At $10/m2 the material allowance is $132.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as vinyl panel count?
No. It gives material-neutral coverage area. Vinyl panel exposure, starter and opening trim are covered by the focused vinyl siding calculator.
Should every small opening be deducted?
A net-area deduction is shown here. Supplier estimating rules may retain small openings to offset cutting waste, so compare with the actual purchasing method.
What is one siding square?
One square is 100 ft2, or 9.290304 m2 of coverage. It is an area measure rather than one physical panel.
