How this calculator works
Divide project area plus allowance by the actual face area of one sheet, then round up. The price applies to whole purchased sheets. This method assumes offcuts can be reused freely within the allowance. Face-grain direction, support spacing, openings and staggered joints may require more sheets than area alone suggests.
Formula
sheet area = sheet length x sheet width; sheets = ceil(project area x (1 + waste)/sheet area); cost = sheets x sheet price.
Worked example
A 20 m2 project with 10% allowance needs 22 m2. Sheets measuring 2 m by 1 m cover 2 m2 each, giving 11 sheets. At $30 each the material cost is $330.

Frequently asked questions
Is 2.44 m exactly 8 ft?
No. Eight feet is exactly 2.4384 m. Enter the actual supplier dimensions or select feet and enter 8.
Does this choose plywood thickness?
No. Thickness, grade and fastening depend on span, loads and the intended application.
Can the calculated sheets always fit the layout?
No. Area division is a purchasing estimate. Draw a cutting layout where grain direction, seams or support locations constrain the cuts.
