How this calculator works
An area quote multiplies measured area by price per square metre. An hourly quote multiplies billed hours by the hourly price. Productivity uses cutting width times travel speed times overall efficiency, following the field-capacity approach used for farm machinery. Trees, wet ground, clipping collection and slope may reduce efficiency. Prices are entered estimates in Canadian dollars.
Formula
Area cost = area × CAD/m2. Hourly cost = hours × CAD/h. Capacity = width × speed × efficiency. Time = area/capacity, using consistent units.
Worked example
A 500 m2 lawn at $0.10/m2 costs $50. A mower cutting 1 m at 3.6 km/h with 50% efficiency covers 1800 m2/h and takes 2000 seconds for 1000 m2.

Frequently asked questions
Are travel and disposal charges included?
Only if you include them in the quoted rate. Add separately billed services when comparing quotes.
Which efficiency should I enter?
Use working area divided by theoretical area over the same total time. Include overlap in this factor.
Can I quote in square feet?
The area field accepts square feet, but the price field remains CAD/m2. Multiply a CAD/ft2 rate by 10.7639104 before entering it.
