Cat age calculator

Compare a cat's age with the familiar human-year convention: 15 in the first year, 24 by the second, then four more per cat year. This is an illustration, not a biological age measurement.

How this calculator works

The comparison follows a conventional year-one, year-two and adult progression. Fractions within each interval are linearly interpolated for illustration; infant development does not actually proceed linearly. Feline life-stage labels follow AAHA definitions. Indoor living, disease and individual history are not translated into a different multiplier.

Formula

For cat age c in years: h = 15c up to one year; h = 15 + 9(c - 1) from one to two; h = 24 + 4(c - 2) after two. Reverse mode inverts the applicable segment.

Worked example

A two-year-old cat corresponds to 24 on this illustration. A five-year-old corresponds to 24 + 4 × 3 = 36. Reversing a human-age illustration of 44 gives seven cat years.

Frequently asked questions

Does every cat year equal seven human years?

No. That constant multiplier misses the rapid early development represented by this conventional chart.

Can the result predict life expectancy?

No. It compares ages for communication and does not estimate remaining lifespan or diagnose health.

Are fractional kitten ages precise?

No. Between the annual anchors this calculator uses a simple interpolation. Ask a veterinarian to assess an unknown kitten's development.
