How this calculator works
Midrange averages only the two extremes. It is the halfway point of the interval covered by the observations, regardless of how the observations are distributed inside that interval. This makes it fast to interpret but sensitive to a single extreme value. Unlike the median or mean, changing an interior observation without changing the endpoints leaves the midrange unchanged.
Formula
Midrange = (minimum + maximum)/2; range = maximum - minimum.
Worked example
For -4, 1, 10, the minimum is -4 and maximum is 10. Their midpoint is (-4 + 10)/2 = 3, and the range is 14.

Frequently asked questions
Is midrange the same as median?
No. The median uses middle positions in an ordered list; midrange uses the two end values.
What if every value is the same?
That common value is the midrange and the range is zero.
Does it use the same unit as my data?
Yes. Both the endpoints and their midpoint use the original unit.
