Pizza tip calculator

Pizza delivery tipping mixes table service and delivery effort. This page starts with a base tip for the quality of service, adds a little for distance when the pizza is delivered, and lets you override the result with your own percentage. It also splits the bill and shows the cost per slice.

How this calculator works

The suggested rate starts with a base for service quality and adds a delivery allowance that grows with distance. Delivery costs the driver time and fuel, so a longer trip earns a slightly higher percentage, while pickup and eat-in use the base alone. If you set a custom percentage, it replaces the suggestion completely. The tip is the bill multiplied by the final rate. The total is split between the people eating, and the cost per slice is the bill divided by the number of slices before the tip, which is useful when comparing a large pizza with a smaller one.

Formula

suggested tip percentage = service base + delivery allowance, where the service base is 22, 18, 12 or 5 percent and the delivery allowance is 2, 3 or 5 percent for under 3, 3 to 5, or over 5 miles. tip = bill x percentage. total = bill + tip. total per person = total / people. cost per slice = bill / slices.

Worked example

A $40 pizza with good service, delivered less than 3 miles, gets 18 + 2 = 20 percent. The tip is $8.00 and the total is $48.00. Split between two people that is $24.00 each, and an 8 slice pizza costs $5.00 a slice before the tip. With excellent service and a delivery over 5 miles the suggestion rises to 27 percent, or $10.80 on the same bill.

Frequently asked questions

Should I tip a delivery driver the same as a server?

It is a different job. A server spends time at your table, while a driver spends time and fuel getting to you. Many people tip delivery drivers a similar percentage plus a distance allowance, and this page reflects that. Local custom still decides.

Does the delivery fee go to the driver?

Often not, or only partly. A delivery fee is a charge from the restaurant and may cover the driver's pay, vehicle costs or neither. Do not assume the fee is the tip; ask the restaurant if you are unsure.

Why is the cost per slice shown before the tip?

It compares the pizza itself, not the service. If you include the tip, the cost per slice changes with the tip rate and becomes harder to compare between orders. The total per person already includes the tip.

Can I use a negative custom tip?

No. The custom percentage is limited to 0 to 100 percent, and the bill and slice counts must be positive. A zero percent tip is allowed, but the page will not produce a negative tip.
