How this calculator works

Capital mode uppercases the first letter of every word. Sentence mode lowercases the text and capitalises a first letter after sentence-ending punctuation followed by whitespace. Title mode keeps articles, conjunctions and selected prepositions lowercase except at title boundaries. The presets are common-word approximations, not full editorial style engines: they do not parse grammar, phrasal verbs, brand spelling or proper nouns. Review titles manually.

Formula

Upper and lower modes apply Unicode case mappings. Capital mode changes each word initial. Title mode additionally leaves the preset minor-word set lowercase between boundaries.

Worked example

the wind in the willows becomes The Wind In The Willows in capital mode and The Wind in the Willows in title mode. HELLO. WORLD! becomes Hello. World! in sentence mode.

Frequently asked questions

Will sentence mode preserve names and acronyms?

No. It cannot identify proper names or acronyms, so review them after conversion.

Are the title presets exact style-guide implementations?

No. They provide common-word rules. Editorial styles depend on word function and context, which this tool does not infer.

Does this preserve whitespace and punctuation?

Internal punctuation and spacing are retained. The calculator input trims leading and trailing whitespace.
