How this calculator works
Percent means per hundred. Multiplying a decimal by 100 produces the number written before the percent sign. In the reverse direction, divide that percentage number by 100. Both forms represent the same ratio; changing notation does not change the underlying quantity.
Formula
Percentage number = decimal × 100. Decimal = percentage number / 100.
Worked example
The decimal 0.075 is 7.5%. Conversely 125% is 1.25. A decimal of -0.2 represents -20%.
