How this calculator works
Net carbohydrate is a convention rather than a standardised physiological measurement. North American total carbohydrate includes fibre, while some other labels list carbohydrate separately from fibre. Enter how much of the sugar alcohols your chosen convention deducts; 100% is a calculation example, not a claim that all polyols are unabsorbed. The energy equivalent counts only the calculated grams and is not the food's total energy or an insulin-dosing input. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Net g = label carbohydrate g - included fibre g - polyol g x chosen deduction fraction. Per-100-g values scale by consumed grams / 100; per-serving values scale by servings.
Worked example
For 20 g total carbohydrate including 5 g fibre and 3 g polyols, a full polyol deduction gives 12 g net per serving. Two servings give 24 g counted carbs and a 96 kcal carbohydrate equivalent.

Frequently asked questions
Should I always subtract all sugar alcohols?
No. Different polyols are absorbed and metabolised differently; choose an explicit convention and avoid treating it as clinical advice.
Can I subtract fibre twice?
No. If the label already excludes fibre, select that definition so the tool does not subtract it again.
Why is the calorie output different from the label?
It includes only counted carbohydrate at 4 kcal/g, not fat, protein, fibre or polyol energy.
