How this calculator works
A daily volume and feed count determine an arithmetic average. A per-feed volume and count determine a daily total. Use measured bottles or an individual plan from the baby's care team. This page does not infer breast milk requirements from age or weight, and the sample 750 mL is an editable example, not a prescription. Direct breastfeeding volumes cannot be read from feed duration. The weight-normalised result is a description of the entered plan, not an adequacy threshold. The NHS recommends responsive feeding and respecting fullness cues. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Daily volume = volume per feed × feed count. Average volume per feed = daily volume / feed count. Daily mL/kg = daily mL / body weight in kg.
Worked example
A known 750 mL daily total divided among 8 feeds averages 93.75 mL per feed. Six measured bottles of 120 mL total 720 mL; for a 6 kg baby this describes 120 mL/kg/day.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this for expressed breast milk?
Yes, to check arithmetic for measured volumes or an agreed feeding plan. It does not predict how much an infant should drink.
Why is there no age-based requirement table?
Age alone cannot establish an individual breast milk requirement. This tool keeps the daily input explicit rather than inventing an age-to-volume rule.
What does a fractional feed count mean?
The two volumes do not divide into equal whole feeds. It is an arithmetic ratio; bottle sizes and feeding patterns can vary.
