How this calculator works

Use quantities and prices for the same period and product. An average selling price can represent a product mix if it is weighted by units sold. This tool measures sales before returns, discounts and expenses. Use a price excluding collected GST/HST. Fractional quantities support goods sold by weight or volume.

Formula

R = P * Q. Unit price P = R / Q; quantity Q = R / P. A zero divisor cannot identify a unique price or quantity.

Worked example

Selling 400 units at $25 produces $10,000 of revenue. A $12,000 revenue target at $30 per unit requires 400 units.

Frequently asked questions

Is revenue profit?

Profit also subtracts costs. This calculation only multiplies the selling price by the volume sold.

Can the price or quantity be zero?

Yes when finding revenue. Revenue is then zero. Reverse calculations require a positive divisor.

How do I combine several products?

Calculate each product separately and add the revenues, or use total units and their quantity-weighted average price.
