How this calculator works
Use values from one date and one currency. First add current asset values without rounding individual entries; separately add outstanding debts. Enter those two totals. Net worth is the difference and may be negative. Count only your ownership share, avoid double counting, and do not net a mortgage from a property value if you also enter it as a liability. Tax on a future sale is excluded.
Formula
Total assets A = sum of current asset values. Total liabilities L = sum of outstanding debts. Net worth = A - L. Enter $0 for an empty group. This form accepts the two totals rather than individual lists.
Worked example
Assets of $10,000 cash, $350,000 property and $50,000 investments total $410,000. A $250,000 mortgage and $5,000 other debt total $255,000. Net worth is $155,000. With $0 assets and $500 debt, net worth is -$500.

Frequently asked questions
Is a negative net worth allowed?
Yes. It means outstanding liabilities exceed the current value of assets. Enter assets and liabilities as nonnegative totals; the result can be negative.
Is net worth the same as income?
No. Net worth is a balance at a particular date. Income is a flow earned over a period, and it is not an asset until it is received or otherwise recognised as a claim.
Can I mix currencies?
No. Use one currency and one date for both totals. The calculation is a simple subtraction with no currency conversion.
