How this calculator works
Commission is one agreed fraction of a sale. Choose the unknown and enter the other two quantities. The outputs show both a fee added on top of the sale and a fee retained from sale proceeds. These are alternative ways of settling the same commission. The calculation excludes salaries, quotas, tiered incentives and sales tax.
Formula
Commission amount = sale price x commission fraction. Rate = amount / price. Price = amount / rate. Added total = price + amount. Net proceeds = price - amount.
Worked example
At 5% on a $1,000 sale, commission is $50, an added-fee total is $1,050 and retained-fee proceeds are $950. A $24 commission on a $300 sale implies an 8% rate.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as sales commission pay?
This page solves one transaction and its inverse. Use the sales commission calculator for base pay, quotas, gross-margin plans and tiered compensation.
Can a zero rate be used?
Yes when calculating a commission amount: the result is $0. A zero rate cannot recover a unique sale price from an amount.
Who pays the added total?
That depends on the agreement. The added and deducted figures illustrate two settlement arrangements and do not imply both charges apply.
