How this calculator works
The as-of date and the target date are each converted to a day number, and the difference is reported. The count excludes the as-of date boundary and includes the target boundary, matching how a countdown to a birthday or a deadline usually reads. A target earlier than the as-of date gives a negative count rather than an error.
Formula
days = O(target) - O(as-of), where O(d) is the day number of date d with 0001-01-01 as day 1.
Worked example
From 2026-11-01 to 2027-01-01 is 61 days. From 2024-02-28 to 2024-03-01 is 2 days because 2024 is a leap year.

Frequently asked questions
Does the as-of date count as day one?
No. The tool counts boundaries between dates, so the day immediately before the target is one day away. Use the days-between-dates calculator if you want to apply a different endpoint convention.
Can I count down to a date that has passed?
Yes. The result is negative, which is a clear signal that the target is behind the as-of date.
Is the answer affected by my time zone?
No. Both inputs are plain calendar dates and the arithmetic never touches a timestamp, so daylight-saving changes do not alter the count.
