How this calculator works
Equal increments of gas amount occupy equal increments of volume when pressure and absolute temperature are held fixed. Treat both states as the same ideal gas sample conditions, with gas added or removed. Positive volumes and amounts are required; condensation and strong real-gas effects fall outside this proportional model.
Formula
V1/n1 = V2/n2. V2 = V1 n2/n1.
Worked example
At fixed pressure and temperature, 1 mol occupying 0.024 m³ becomes 0.048 m³ at 2 mol. A 0.03 m³ sample of 3 mol contains 5 mol when its volume is 0.05 m³.

Frequently asked questions
What stays constant?
Pressure and temperature.
When does the ideal model lose accuracy?
Near condensation or at high density, intermolecular forces and finite molecular size become important.
Can gas amount change?
Yes. This law compares different amounts at unchanged pressure and temperature, such as adding gas to a flexible container.
