Small text generator

Small text in a social profile is not a font size setting; it is a set of Unicode letters that sit at superscript height. This page replaces each letter with the matching modifier letter and leaves everything it cannot map in place, so the result still reads as your words rather than a row of missing glyphs.

How this calculator works

The tiny letters used on social profiles are Unicode modifier letters. They were designed for phonetic writing and sit above the baseline, which is why they look like small text at normal font size. This page maps the 25 letters that have a modifier form and copies spaces, punctuation and digits unchanged. The letter q has no modifier form, so it stays an ordinary q, and digits keep their normal size because there are no small digit forms separate from the superscript digits.

Formula

Each letter is looked up in a fixed table of 25 modifier letters: a becomes the modifier letter small a, b becomes the modifier letter small b, and so on up to z, with q left unchanged. Upper and lower case input both use the same form. Everything else is copied as typed, and the page counts letters and digits that had no mapping.

Worked example

The phrase small text becomes ˢᵐᵃˡˡ ᵗᵉˣᵗ: each letter is replaced, and the space stays a space. A phrase with q, such as quick quiz, keeps both q letters at normal size, which is why the unchanged count reports 2 for that input.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between small text and small caps?

Small text uses modifier letters that sit high and small, like footnotes. Small caps uses small capital letters that sit on the baseline and look like miniature capitals. They are different Unicode sets with a different visual effect; this page produces the tiny, raised style.

Why do the letters look raised rather than centred?

The modifier letters were designed as phonetic superscripts, not as a typographic small size. Their position depends on the font, so they may look raised in one app and centred in another. There is no way to make them sit lower with plain text.

Which letters have no small form?

Among basic Latin letters only q has no modifier form. Digits, accented letters and punctuation also stay at their normal size. The unchanged count at the top of the result tells you how many characters were left as typed.

Will other people be able to read or copy it?

They can copy and paste it, but screen readers may spell it out letter by letter and search engines will not match the ordinary spelling. Use it for decoration, never for important information or for text that must be found by search.

Does the text keep the same number of characters?

Yes. Each input character maps to one output code point, so the character count is unchanged. Some of the output code points take more bytes when stored as UTF-8, but they display as one character each.
