How this calculator works
Each evolution takes a fixed amount of candy for that species and awards experience points. Dividing the candy you have by the species cost gives the number of complete evolutions, and any remainder stays in your bag. A Lucky Egg doubles experience for its duration, so it helps only if you evolve inside that window. The catch estimate at the bottom is the candy gap to the next evolution divided by your candy per catch, rounded up, because a catch cannot be partly credited.
Formula
evolutions = floor(candy you have / candy per evolution). experience = evolutions x 500 x (2 if a Lucky Egg is active, otherwise 1). candy left = candy you have - evolutions x candy per evolution. catches for the next evolution = ceiling((candy per evolution - candy left) / candy per catch).
Worked example
With 300 candy and a species cost of 25, you can evolve 12 Pokémon and 0 candy is left. Without a Lucky Egg that is 12 x 500 = 6,000 XP; with one it is 12 x 1,000 = 12,000 XP. If you catch 3 candy each time, the next evolution needs 25 candy, which is 9 more catches after the last evolution because 8 catches give 24.

Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator know each species candy cost?
No. Candy costs differ widely, from 12 for common three-stage lines to 400 for legendary or special evolutions. Enter the cost shown on the Pokémon evolution screen for the version you are playing, because seasonal changes occasionally move costs.
How much XP does an evolution give?
The long-standing value is 500 XP per evolution, and a Lucky Egg doubles all XP earned for 30 minutes, giving 1,000 XP. Niantic official help confirms the Lucky Egg doubling and duration; the 500 XP figure is documented by community references rather than a current Niantic page. Event bonuses and a first-time Pokédex entry can add more.
Should I include a new Pokédex entry bonus?
This page does not. Evolving a species you have never registered before adds a further bonus, and event or friendship bonuses may apply too. Add those separately if you need an exact total, and check the current in-game message for the actual XP.
Is a Lucky Egg worth using for a mass evolution?
That depends on how many evolutions you can fit into the 30 minute window. Prepare the candy in advance, then evolve continuously. A Lucky Egg that covers two evolutions adds little; one that covers dozens can double a large block of experience. The calculator gives the XP for the evolutions you have ready.
Do these values change between game versions?
Yes, possibly. XP values, candy costs and event multipliers are set by the live game and can change in updates or events. The 500 XP and 3 candy per catch figures are the long-standing values as of the 2026 game version; always check the current bonus screen before planning a session.
