How this calculator works
International Morse assigns a sequence of short and long signals to letters, digits and common punctuation. This text tool uses a dot for a short signal, a hyphen for a long signal, spaces between encoded letters and a slash between words. Text is uppercased. It does not infer letter boundaries from an uninterrupted dot-dash stream or generate audio.
Formula
Dash duration = 3 dot units; gaps within a letter = 1 unit; gaps between letters = 3 units; gaps between words = 7 units.
Worked example
SOS becomes ... --- ... . The word HI becomes .... .. . Decoding .- / -... returns A B.
