How this calculator works
The date of Christmas is fixed at 25 December, so the only work is counting days on the calendar. This page takes the year of your starting date, forms 25 December of that year, and uses it if it has not passed. If your date is after 25 December, the target becomes 25 December of the following year. The count includes leap days when 29 February falls in between, and it uses calendar days rather than working days. On 25 December itself the answer is zero days, not 365.
Formula
days until Christmas = date of the next 25 December minus the starting date, counted in calendar days. weeks = days / 7. If the starting date is after 25 December, use 25 December of the following year.
Worked example
From 1 November 2026 there are 54 days to 25 December 2026, which is 7.71 weeks. From 25 December 2026 the answer is zero, because it is Christmas Day itself. From 26 December 2026 the target moves to 25 December 2027, a gap of 364 days. Starting on 26 December 2027 gives 365 days, because 2028 is a leap year and 29 February falls inside the range.

Frequently asked questions
Does the count include today?
No. It counts whole days between the start of the starting date and the start of Christmas Day. From the morning of 1 November you have 54 full days to reach the morning of 25 December.
What about time zones?
The calculation uses calendar dates only, so it is the same in every time zone. The moment Christmas begins locally is a separate question, and the date does not change across zones in any practical way.
Why does the sleep count equal the day count?
One sleep passes per day, so the number of nights between the dates equals the number of days. It is the same figure counted in a friendlier unit for children.
Is Christmas on the same date everywhere?
Western churches celebrate on 25 December of the Gregorian calendar. Orthodox churches that use the Julian calendar for fixed feasts celebrate on 7 January of the Gregorian calendar, so this page targets the 25 December date.
