How this calculator works
Express each decimal as an integer coefficient times a power of ten. Multiply the integer coefficients exactly and add the numbers of decimal places. The result therefore avoids binary decimal artefacts. Sequential steps show intermediate products.
Formula
(A × 10^-p)(B × 10^-q) = AB × 10^-(p+q). A digit d at place k contributes A × d × 10^k to the coefficient product.
Worked example
123 × 45 = 123 × 5 + 123 × 40 = 615 + 4920 = 5535. For decimals, 1.2 × 0.03 = 0.036. Three factors 2, 3 and 4 give 24.

Frequently asked questions
How do negative factors affect the sign?
An odd number of negative factors gives a negative product; an even number gives a non-negative product.
What if a factor is zero?
The whole product is zero, regardless of the other finite factors.
Why is the result text?
Text preserves every digit of the exact decimal product, including products outside the usual numeric range. Inputs still have ordinary numeric input precision.
