How this calculator works
The midpoint of a segment is the point exactly halfway between the endpoints along both axes, so each coordinate is the average of the two endpoint coordinates. Any real coordinates are accepted, including identical endpoints, which simply return the same point.
Formula
M = ((x₁ + x₂)/2, (y₁ + y₂)/2).
Worked example
The midpoint of (0, 0) and (10, 4) is (5, 2). The midpoint of (-3, 7) and (5, -1) is (1, 3).

Frequently asked questions
Does the order of the points matter?
No. Averaging is symmetric, so entering either endpoint first gives the same midpoint.
What if both endpoints are the same point?
The segment has zero length and the midpoint is that point itself, which is a valid degenerate answer.
Can the midpoint have decimal coordinates?
Yes. Each coordinate is the average of the two endpoints, so endpoints of 0 and 5 give a midpoint coordinate of 2.5.
