How this calculator works
Protein equals body mass multiplied by the selected daily grams-per-kilogram factor. The RDA factor is 0.8, the active profile uses 1.0, and the athlete profile uses the sheet's representative 1.4 within a wider 1.2 to 2.0 range. This applies to healthy adults with normal kidney function, not clinician-managed kidney disease or pregnancy needs. The athlete factor is a selected value, not the mathematical midpoint of that range. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Protein (g/day) = body weight (kg) x profile factor (g/kg/day).
Worked example
A 70 kg adult at the RDA factor needs an estimated 56 g/day. The athlete setting gives 98 g/day.

Frequently asked questions
Does athlete mean everyone who exercises?
No. Training volume and goals affect needs, and a single factor cannot describe every athlete.
Can I use this with kidney disease?
Protein intake for kidney disease needs clinician-set guidance rather than this general estimate.
Does the weight need to be in kilograms?
Yes. The factors are grams per kilogram. Convert pounds to kilograms by multiplying by 0.45359237.
