How this calculator works
HOMA1 is the original algebraic approximation, not the later computer-based HOMA2 model. Both indices require fasting, steady-state glucose and insulin measurements. Changing the glucose selector reinterprets the number. Exogenous insulin, acute illness and non-fasting samples limit interpretation. No universal resistance threshold or treatment decision is assigned. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
HOMA1-IR = fasting insulin(mIU/L) x glucose(mmol/L)/22.5, equivalently insulin x glucose(mg/dL)/405 using the original rounded factor 18. QUICKI = 1/[log10(insulin in microIU/mL) + log10(glucose in mg/dL)].
Worked example
Fasting insulin 10 microIU/mL and glucose 5 mmol/L give HOMA1-IR 50/22.5 = 2.2222. At 90 mg/dL and insulin 10, QUICKI is 1/log10(900), about 0.33849.

Frequently asked questions
Is HOMA1 the same as HOMA2?
No. HOMA2 is a different computer model. This page implements the stated original approximation only.
What is a normal cutoff?
Cutoffs vary with assay, age and population. A single universal threshold is not supplied.
Can I enter insulin in pmol/L?
No. Insulin assay conversion is not universal. Use the laboratory value in microIU/mL or mIU/L, which are numerically equal.
