How this calculator works
SLEEVEPASS reported five-year mean excess weight loss of 49% after sleeve gastrectomy and 57% after gastric bypass. Those are trial group averages, not individual predictions. The trial defined excess weight relative to BMI 25. This page applies the same arithmetic to an entered starting weight. It does not estimate surgical eligibility, complications or a monthly recovery trajectory. Other procedures can be explored only with a clinician-supplied EWL scenario. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Reference weight = 25 x height(m)^2. Excess weight = starting weight - reference weight. Loss = excess weight x EWL fraction; remaining weight = starting weight - loss.
Worked example
At 2 m and 140 kg, reference weight is 100 kg and excess weight is 40 kg. A 49% EWL scenario removes 19.6 kg and leaves 120.4 kg.

Frequently asked questions
Is EWL the same as total weight loss?
No. EWL uses only weight above the BMI-25 reference as its denominator.
Is BMI 25 my ideal personal weight?
No. It is the study's mathematical reference, not an individual target.
Will this show how much I lose each month?
No. The cited percentage is a five-year group mean; interpolating a recovery curve would add unsupported assumptions.
