How this calculator works
Each team clears its own cups, so the cups in play per game are the cups per team multiplied by the number of teams. Every cup is filled with a measured amount, often only a third of a can, because the game is about throwing rather than drinking. Multiplying cups by the beer per cup gives the total volume, and dividing by the bottle or can size gives what to buy, rounded up. The time estimate uses 20 minutes per game per table, which is a rough pace for a casual tournament; final rounds take longer. Cost is the number of bottles or cans at the price you enter, so a case price can be divided by the count before entering it.
Formula
cups = teams x games x cups per team. beer = cups x beer per cup. bottles = beer / bottle size, rounded up. cost = bottles x price per bottle. duration = games / tables x 20 minutes.
Worked example
Four teams playing six games with 10 cups a team and 120 mL a cup use 4 x 6 x 10 = 240 cups and 240 x 120 = 28.8 L of beer. With 355 mL cans that is 28.8 / 0.355 = 81.1, so 82 cans. At $2.50 a can the cost is 82 x 2.50 = $205.00. On one table the tournament takes 6 x 20 = 120 minutes, or 2 hours.

Frequently asked questions
How much beer goes in a beer pong cup?
That is a house rule. A common setup fills each cup about a third full, around 100 to 150 mL, which keeps the table light and the game moving. More beer per cup means a longer and more alcohol-heavy night, so choose the amount with the people at the table in mind.
Does the number of tables change the beer?
No. The beer depends on the teams, games and cups. Tables only change the time: more tables run more games at once, so the tournament finishes sooner.
Should I buy extra?
Yes, for spillage and for the last game. The bottle count is already rounded up, but a spare case is sensible for a long night. Keep a water station and non-alcoholic drinks at the table; alcohol is not required to play.
How can I keep the game safe?
Use a clean cup and throw a clean ball, and wash the balls after they hit the floor. Beer on the floor and on hands makes a slippery surface. Anyone driving should not drink, and the game should stop for anyone who has had enough.
