How this calculator works
Because the US customary cup is exactly 8 US fluid ounces, converting fluid ounces to cups is an exact division by 8. The page converts volume only: the ounce on a kitchen scale is the avoirdupois mass ounce handled by the weight and mass converter, and it is not interchangeable with a fluid ounce.
Formula
cups = fluid ounces ÷ 8 (US customary).
Worked example
12 US fl oz to cups: 12 ÷ 8 = 1.5 cups.

Frequently asked questions
Are these the ounces printed on food packaging?
Liquid products label volumes in fluid ounces, and this page converts those. Dry goods label mass in weight ounces, which belong on the weight and mass page.
Why does a canned drink say 355 mL and 12 fl oz?
The metric label is rounded: 12 US fl oz is exactly 354.88235475 mL, which packagers round to 355 mL on the metric side.
Can I enter part of a fluid ounce?
Yes. Dividing by 8 works for decimals, so 4.5 fl oz gives 0.5625 cups.
