How this calculator works
The ounce has two common definitions. The avoirdupois ounce is one sixteenth of a pound and is used for groceries, postage and body weight in countries that still weigh in pounds. The troy ounce is slightly heavier and is used for precious metals and gemstones. One kilogram is about 35.27 avoirdupois ounces or 32.15 troy ounces. The page includes both, so a gold price per troy ounce and a parcel weight in ordinary ounces stay distinct.
Formula
oz = kg / 0.028349523125. ozt = kg / 0.0311034768. kg = oz x 0.028349523125 = ozt x 0.0311034768. The avoirdupois ounce is 453.59237 g / 16, and the troy ounce is exactly 31.1034768 g.
Worked example
1 kg = 35.2740 oz = 32.1507 oz t. 0.5 kg = 17.6370 oz. 0.1 kg = 3.52740 oz. 1 oz = 0.0283495 kg. 1 oz t = 0.0311035 kg.
