How this calculator works
Choose what the moles refer to before converting. For moles of atoms, leave the multiplier at one. For moles of molecules, enter the number of atoms in each molecule. The SI Avogadro constant is exact; the accuracy of a real measurement is limited by the entered amount.
Formula
Atom count = moles of entities x 6.02214076 x 10^23 x atoms per entity.
Worked example
1 mol of atoms contains 6.02214076 x 10^23 atoms. 0.5 mol H2O contains 9.03321114 x 10^23 atoms because each molecule has three atoms.

Frequently asked questions
Can the multiplier be fractional?
No. An individual specified molecule or formula unit has an integer atom count.
What about ions?
Moles of monatomic ions use one atom per ion. Charge does not change the atom count.
Are fractional moles allowed?
Yes. Moles are a macroscopic quantity and need not be whole numbers.
