Powered by an industrial-grade encoder stack
Mathulate routes every image through the best-in-class native encoder available on the server: MozJPEG (Mozilla's libjpeg-turbo fork with trellis quantization) produces JPEGs 5–15% smaller than the standard libjpeg at the same visual quality; pngquant applies median-cut color quantization for 50–80% PNG savings with imperceptible loss; oxipng follows up with a multi-threaded lossless deflate pass; cwebp and avifenc handle the modern WEBP and AVIF formats. What the presets mean
Lossless — no quality loss, slowest compression. Use this for screenshots, vector exports, logos with text. Near-lossless — the sweet spot for photographs; differences are not visible to the naked eye. Balanced — small visible compromise for major size savings; perfect for web hero images and email assets. Aggressive — maximum file-size reduction; some artifacts may be visible on close inspection.
